Dr. Stewart is the Chair of NERA’s Intellectual Property Practice, which
focuses on the valuation of patents, trademarks, and other intellectual
property, the calculation of economic damages resulting from infringement,
and other issues related to intellectual property economics. His
interest in the economics of intellectual property ranges from fundamental
economic research on “preemptive innovation” to practical calculation
of the value of intellectual property and the evaluation of such issues as
the commercial success of patented inventions. In this role, he has testified
in U.S. federal and state courts on numerous intellectual property
issues. Dr. Stewart’s other areas of interest include the economics of
antitrust and energy economics. Before joining NERA, Dr. Stewart was
Associate Professor of Economics at Rutgers University. He has edited one
book, Energy Deregulation and Economic Growth, and is the author of more
than 30 articles published in The Quarterly Journal of Economics, The
American Economic Review, Journal of the Patent and Trademark Office
Society, Canadian Journal of Economics, Resources and Energy, and elsewhere.
